Our Team

 

JACQUE

General Manager / Amateur Team Coach

Jacque is a certified USA Boxing Coach and a Certified Personal Trainer and Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She competed for the UW Boxing Club all four years of college, where she was a four-time NCBA All-American, a three-time NCBA national and regional champion, and a Washington State Golden Gloves champion. She was a group fitness instructor at the UW IMA and a boxing instructor at MKG Martial Arts, and continues to use her boxing skills and previous work experience to create classes and private training sessions focused on strength training, conditioning, and boxing technique. Jacque co-coaches the amateur team with fellow SBG trainer, Francisco, and is available for private training. 

EMIL

Manager

Emil was born and raised in Seattle. He is a homegrown product of Seattle Boxing Gym, going from member to coach. His coaching journey began when he started holding mitts and assisting in the training camp of a local pro fighter. Since then, he has participated in the training camp of several pro fighters including SBG trainer Shae Green. He now works with a number of professional and competitive amateur boxers as a certified USA Boxing Coach. Emil has competed as an amateur fighter and worked with a local fitness/boxing gym to help train their employees/boxing instructors. Prior to joining Seattle Boxing Gym, Emil assisted in the teaching of private group boxing classes around Seattle. Emil works with boxers at all levels and is available for private training.

 

MARTIN

Martin has worked on and off as a trainer since he retired from his professional boxing career in 2005 . He holds an impressive professional record of 25-5-1. He fought many notable fighters including former lightweight champion Juan Diaz. Prior to going pro, he had a prolific amateur career (47-9) (including a fight against Flloyd Mayweather Jr.): He racked up four Tacoma Golden Glove Championships, three Las Vegas Golden Glove Championships, a Junior Olympics National Championship, a silver medal in the 1994 National Golden Gloves, and more. He also served as a sparring partner for world champions Shane Mosley, Roberto Garcia, and Genaro Hernandez. Martin helps with the SBG’s Sunday sparring and is also available for private training.

FRANCISCO

Amateur Team Coach

Cauã (Francisco), a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has a passion for boxing. He began training with Coach Ricardo Acuna at age 18 and achieved a 4-0 amateur boxing record. Since then, his focus has shifted to coaching. Francisco is a USA Boxing certified coach who has served as an assistant coach for both Coach Acuna and Coach Ines, including at the 2023 Olympic Trials. Prior to boxing (and starting at the age of 6), he competed in martial arts including Taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu, and Capoeira. At age 19, he won the Washington State Championship in Taekwondo. Francisco brings a well-rounded approach to his training sessions and co-coaches the SBG amateur team with Jacque. He is available for group classes and private training. 

 

JEREMIAH

Jeremiah was raised in Athens, Georgia. He started boxing at Statesboro Boxing Club while attending Georgia Southern University. Jeremiah has competed in amateur boxing competitions across the country amassing a 16-4 record to date. He competed in the 2019 Olympic Qualifier Trials and is training to do it again in 2023. Jeremiah is enrolled in college working towards his bachelor’s degree in Education. He leads the youth classes every Saturday and Sunday. He is available for group classes, private training, and assists with Sunday open sparring.

ELIZER “EL”

Before joining SBG, he worked as an independent personal trainer with a focus on weight training and athletic performance. In addition, he served as the assistant coach of the basketball teams at Renton Select and Northwest Prodigy. Elizer has a strong athletic background including playing competitive basketball, football, and (more recently) boxing. He is actively pursuing other training certifications with the National Academy of Sports Medicine for Performance Enhancement and Corrective Exercise to expand his knowledge of boxing and sports performance training. The philosophy of foundation and approach to his training is based on education before application: Train with purpose. He is available for group and private training.

 

ANGEL

Angel was born in Yakima WA, and grew up in Renton, WA. He started boxing at age 11 under the tutelage of Coach Mario Rodriguez at Azteca Boxing Gym.  He competed in 13 amateur fights before retiring from competition in 2019. Angel is now focused on coaching, with a long-term goal of working with competitive youth fighters. He is currently in college studying business at UW with hopes of one day opening his own gym. Angel is available for both group classes and private training. 

SIMONA

Simona was born and raised in Latvia and moved to the United States at the age of 15. She started boxing in 2019 for the University of Washington
(UW) Boxing Club and has since won the NCBA regional and national championships and was awarded the Most Outstanding Female Boxer in 2023. She continues to help train with the UW Boxing Club as well as train under Coach Acuna. Simona has an amazing amateur boxing record and recently won the Washington State Golden Gloves and the USA Elite National Championships. She is currently ranked #1 in the US for the 139lb female weight division. Prior to joining SBG, she taught boxing classes at Emerald City Boxing Gym. She is currently studying Biochemistry at UW while working towards getting a PHD in Wildlife Rehabilitation. She is available for group classes and private training.

 

JON

Jon was born in Virginia and spent 20 years in Brooklyn NY before moving to Seattle in 2020. He has over 10 years of experience as a boxing coach (working at various gyms in New York) in addition to being a NASM and NCSF certified personal trainer. After injuries derailed his basketball ambitions in 2009, Jon turned to boxing. He started boxing at Zaragoza Boxing Gym in Brooklyn, and trained at multiple gyms under the tutelage of multiple coaches including Yoel & Zab Judah. He competed in six amateur bouts (winning the Long Island Championship) as well as 22 professional fights ( at one time ranked the number 32 heavyweight in the US.) Prior to boxing, Jon was a standout high school, JUCO, and college basketball player. He is available for group classes and adult private training.

ALEXIS DE LA CERDA

Pro Boxer

Alexis is a professional boxer from Federal Way, Washington. He started boxing at the age of 8 and has since trained at Azteca Boxing Club under Coach Mario Rodriguez. Alexis has over 100 amateur fights and has recently transitioned to the professional ranks. As an amateur, he won the Adidas National Pal Tournament in 2015, placed #6 nationally in 2021, and secured a #2 national ranking at the National Golden Gloves in 2022. In 2023, he won his professional debut by TKO. Alexis enjoys sharing his boxing knowledge and passion for the sport. He is available for classes and private training.

 

SHAE GREEN

Pro Boxer

Shae Green is a professional boxer from Mannheim, Germany, who discovered his passion for boxing at the age of 15. With 14 years of boxing experience, including 9 years as an amateur and 5 years as a pro, Shae's talent flourished under the guidance of Olympian and former world champion Brian 'Hawaiian Punch' Viloria. He has competed in 20 amateur fights and has an impressive professional record of 7 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw in 9 bouts. Shae fought for Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and trained alongside other Hall of Fame fighters such as Shane Mosley and James Toney. As a coach, Shae holds a professional boxing and coaching license. He has worked as a trainer at Seattle Boxing Gym, Churchill Boxing Gym, and as an assistant coach for 3-time world champion David Benavidez. Shae brings his passion for boxing to both his group classes and private training.

JOSE

Jose is a NCSF certified personal trainer. After starting boxing in 2021, he joined the SBG team as an employee in 2022. Jose wears many hats at SBG: Front desk/administrator; assistant coach for classes; private trainer; and resident sparring partner. Additionally, he is certified in both adult and pediatric First Aid/CPR. Jose is currently working towards two more NCSF certifications in Sports Nutrition and Strength Coaching. He has a passion for teaching powerlifting as well as pre-hab (injury prevention training).  Jose hopes to compete in amateur boxing in the near future. He is available for group classes and private training.

 

RON

Ron is a Logistics Officer in the US Army from Bremerton, WA. He has been with SBG since 2021 and has taken on several roles at the gym, including teaching classes, working the front desk, private training, and willing sparring partner. Ron has a deep love for boxing that started when he was 16 years old. He has trained with UW Boxing, Cappy's Boxing Gym, and SBG. Ron has competed in exhibition sparring and is working towards showcasing his skills and tenacity in the ring at a sanctioned amateur event. He is available for classes and private training.

JOEY

Joey, a Seattle native (with a stint in the Midwest), joined the SBG team in May 2022 and has been a valuable member since. He has come a long way, starting as a member in 2017 and working his way up to become a trainer. Joey began in Muay Thai before transitioning to traditional boxing in 2017. His passion lies in teaching the fundamentals of boxing, making him the perfect coach for beginner boxing classes and private clients who are new to the sport. In his free time, you can find Joey sparring/training at the gym, riding his motorcycle, relaxing at home, or working on his budding web design business. He is available for both group classes and private training, bringing his passion for boxing to every session.

 

JV

JV is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) who has trained collegiate athletes and professional sports teams including the Everett Silvertips. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Physiology from Central Washington University, where he played baseball as a middle infielder. He started boxing in 2019 and has been an active member at SBG ever since. He started working at SBG helping with the youth boxing class and ultimately took over teaching the youth boxing class on Saturdays. JV is currently in school pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant while he plans to compete as an amateur boxer.

ZASHA

Zasha started boxing her freshman year of college for the University of Washington (UW) Boxing Club.  At UW, she was a two-time All-American and a member (and eventual captain) of a women's team that won three straight national titles. In her senior year, Zasha became the first female boxer to receive the Ira Mitzner Collegiate Boxing Scholarship. That same year, she also won the Golden Gloves championship for Washington State. She graduated from UW with degrees in biophysics and mathematics. More recently, Zasha began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Gracie Barra with an eye towards competing in the near future. She is available for both group classes and personal training. 

 

BRIAN

Brian joined the SBG team in 2021 and is currently working towards obtaining a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Nutritional Coach certificates through the National Academy of Sports Medicine program. He helps with all of the operations of the gym as well as assisting the trainers when needed. Brian joined SBG as a member in 2018 and has been active in the sport ever since. He was born and raised in Hawaii before moving to Seattle in 2012. He holds a Culinary arts degree from the Culinary Institute of the Pacific and has a passion for fine foods. Brian still works as a private chef, enjoys fishing, and is hoping to compete as an amateur boxer in the near future.

RICARDO

Coach Acuna is a pro and amateur boxing coach and manager. He helped pioneer the University of Washington Boxing Club and continues to be instrumental to the team today. As part of the UW coaching staff, he coached/trained/mentored the three-time NCBA National Champion women's team, the first Olympic trial contender/qualifier from the UW Boxing Club (Richard Vansiclen, runner-up), regional and state Golden Gloves champions, and he is the Golden Glove champion coach of the 2017-2018 season in the Northwest. He started in the sport of Tae Kwon Do at the age of nine in Guadalajara, Mexico. After achieving a black belt, he moved onto the sport of boxing, where he competed at the amateur and professional level.  

 

CARLA

Coach Carla Wilcox is a former professional boxer, a Lifestretch Certified Instructor, and the original founder and owner of Seattle Boxing Gym. For over 20 years she has coached people from all walks of life (business leaders, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists and athletes) through the art and practice of boxing. Through her heart-centered philosophy she continues to guide people through their perceived limitations and on a journey to become the greatest version of themselves.

RICHARD VANSICLEN*

Pro Boxer

Richard began his boxing career with the University of Washington Boxing Club where he was the first UW fighter to become a Western Regional champion and All-American. In his three years of boxing at the UW he won: Three Western Regional titles; three All-American awards; a National Championship in 2015; and the 2015 & 2016 Golden Gloves championship at 178lbs. He is a 2015 graduate of UW in Nutrition. Richard qualified and competed in the Olympic team trials for Rio 2016. He turned professional in September 2016, and is now 13-1-1.

*Richard moved to California in December of 2018, but he continues to be a part of the Seattle Boxing Gym family as a fighter and visiting coach. 

 

JOSE VALENZUELA*

Pro Boxer

Jose started boxing at age 11 at the Azteca Boxing Gym in Renton, Washington. As an amateur, he went on a three year winning streak (2014-2016), which included winning the Ringside World Championship (2015) and the Washington State Golden Gloves championship in the 123lb weight class at age 16. Jose made his professional debut in 2018 and has amassed a 8-0 record to date. Jose trains with Team Benavidez under the tutelage of Jose Benavidez Sr. 

*Jose is currently pursuing his professional career, but continues to have an on and off presence at Seattle Boxing Gym.

Our classes fuse cardio and strength training with boxing techniques that can be taken at any level of skill and/or fitness. Each of our dedicated and experienced instructors bring their own unique training style, and our class sizes offer individual attention to every member. BEGINNER BOXING CLASSES PROVIDE

Basic boxing fundamentals:  If you have never boxed before or you want to perfect your boxing technique, this class is for you! In this class, you will learn boxing fundamentals that will prepare you for our group classes. This beginner's class will focus on the correct form of punches, defense, and footwork.

Schedule: Tuesdays and Fridays 4:00PM-5:00PM and Sundays 11:00-12:00PM

GROUP CLASSES PROVIDE

Boxing fundamentals:  Proper warm up and shadow boxing technique, proper stance and footwork training, pad and punching bag work, accurate form and timing, and simulated sparring.  Full-body strength and cardio workout: Jumping rope, core/abdominal workout, strength/plyometric circuit training (e.g. squats, push-ups, box jumps, barbell/kettlebell exercises, tire flips, resistance band training, and more). FIRST CLASS IS FREE!

SPARRING FUNDAMENTALS PROVIDE

The essential principles for controlled boxing, including stance, footwork, punches, defense, distance control, safety, and boxing etiquette. Ideal for beginners and those looking to refine techniques with personalized feedback. This class is limited to 10 participants because the class takes place in the ring to enhance ring awareness. 

Schedule: Saturdays 11:00-12:00PM

PRIVATE TRAINING PROVIDES

Faster progress and more individual attention with a customized approach to reaching your goals: Focus on boxing skills, strength/circuit training, or find the optimal combination of the two. Boxing-focused training stresses proper punching technique, footwork, punch combinations, counter punching, defensive drills, and more.

OPEN GYM PROVIDES

The ability to do your own thing.  Access to all of our boxing, cardio, and training equipment. The gym is outfitted with everything you need for your own personal workout be it powerlifting, plyometric training, or straight cardio. We have an ample amount of Olympic-style weights (including squat racks, benches, etc.) along with a large volume and array of kettle bells, dumbbells resistance bands, jump boxes, suspension training rigs, and more. Additionally we house treadmills, rowing machines, assault bikes, stationary bikes, and an elliptical machine. While we are a boxing-focused gym we have all the equipment you need for your own workout (whether you box or not).

SPARRING

If you are training for a fight or just want to hit someone (even if you don’t want to get hit back), members interested in sparring can join intermittent sparring classes or organize private sessions with other members at similar skill and enthusiasm levels. If you are interested in controlled/instructional sparring, try our Sparring Fundamentals Class Monday/Wednesday/Saturday or Open Sparring on Sundays.

YOUTH PROGRAM

Seattle Boxing Gym’s youth class is open to kids ages seven to twelve. If your child is younger, contact us and we will do our best to determine if the youth class is the best option for them. We provide non-contact training that focuses on boxing fundamentals and general fitness. Our 45-minute class is tailored to create a fun and challenging experience for kids of varying skill levels. We aim to provide kids with improved hand-eye coordination, footwork, and balance; along with increased athletic and personal confidence. We believe the skills a child learns from boxing can be applied across all sports.

Seattle Boxing Gym does NOT have an organized competitive youth program. We are happy to talk with families about options available to kids who wish to compete.

Parents/guardians are required to sign the liability waiver for any person under the age of 18.

Frequently asked questions

 

Is there a free trial period?

Your first class is free. In addition, we offer a discounted first-time one-hour private training session for anyone who is:  1.) Hesitant to jump into a class or; 2.) Has attended a class and wants to jump start their progress. The cost of your first one-hour private is $42.50.

 

Do I need to sign-up for my first visit online?

No, but you can sign up online using MindBody . When you arrive at the gym, we will have you sign the new client information sheet/waiver, help you wrap your hands, and let you know what to expect. Try to arrive 15-20 minutes early if it is your first time.

 

Can I visit the gym and/or take a tour?

Yes, check in at the front desk or email us at info@seattleboxinggym.com to schedule your visit!

 

What do I need to bring to a class or private training session?

We ask that members purchase their own hand wraps and gloves, and we have some for sale at the gym. We will no longer be offering community gloves and hand wraps.

 

Do I need to have my own gloves and wraps?

Yes. If you do not have any, we sell hand wraps and gloves or we can point you in the right direction.

 

Are the classes suitable for beginners?

All of the classes, with the exception of “Sparring Fundamentals” are open to beginners and first-time boxers. If we have a large class and/or additional staff on hand, we may pull new-comers aside at the start of the class to help them get up to speed with boxing fundamentals.  We have newcomers every day and are used to accommodating first-time boxers in our classes. Don’t be scared or intimidated: We pride ourselves on being a welcoming place for boxers of all skill and fitness levels.

**We also offer a Beginner Boxing class every Tuesday and Friday at 4 PM and Sundays at 11 AM, and your first group class is free!**

 

Do you train kids?

Yes! We have dedicated coaches who lead our youth program every Saturday and Sunday from 10:15 AM-11:00 AM. Our youth program caters to kids ages 6-12! Please purchase gloves for your youth boxers prior to their first class. Click here or give us a call for more details.

 

Do I have to get hit?

No.

 

Do you have sparring?

Yes, open sparring is every Sunday 1-2:15 PM. We also having Sparring Fundamentals Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 PM and Saturdays at 11 AM.

 

Do I have to be a member to take private lessons?

You do not need a monthly membership to schedule a private training session. If you plan to use the gym on your own (i.e. in addition to the private sessions), we ask that you pay for an open gym membership or daily drop in fee.  

 

Do you have showers?

Yes, we do!

Do you have parking?

YES! There is free parking at the gym – and lots of it.   

Is there a cancellation policy for private lessons and group classes?

We require you to cancel your private lesson 24 hours ahead of time before getting charged the full-session price. You can early cancel your private lesson by telling us in person or emailing us at info@seattleboxinggym.com 24 hours before your private session.

 

Are there any gym rules I should know about?

We want the gym to be a safe and comfortable place for everyone. We have a Code of Conduct that you must comply by. In short, treat everyone with respect and enjoy your workout!

Do you have Gympass and/or ClassPass?

Yes! We have both.

Do you offer online classes and private sessions?

We do not offer online classes, but we do offer online private sessions! Please email us info@seattleboxinggym.com for more information!

Can I/we use your gym for filming/photography/special events?
